INTERVIEW INFORMATION:

Day one - Oral interview with the recruitment committee, followed by a 15-minute teaching demonstration.
Day two - Six hour weld test.
Day three - Second interview.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The program of Welding Technology at Butte College provides students with entry-level skills, knowledge, and certification to obtain employment in the welding trades and related industries. This is accomplished by a ratio of fifteen percent lecture and eighty-five percent hands-on training using the latest welding equipment in the industry. Students are strongly encouraged to undergo certification testing which is given annually at the college. The program of Welding Technology is looking for a team player who is sincerely interested in maintaining and improving the high standards of our Program.

POSITION DUTIES:
In addition to the responsibilities of the classification description, the specific position is also responsible for:

Teaching a full load of courses in welding to prepare students to become certified welders with special emphasis on safety practices and quality.
Developing and teaching the full range of classes from basics to certification including but not limited to: OAW, OFC, SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, GMAW, resistance spot welding, and the arc cutting methods of air carbon arc and plasma processes. On plate and pipe in all positions with a variety of filler materials.
Maintaining a clean, well-organized welding shop.
Setting shop standards to require students, hourly help, aides, and volunteers to perform tasks to ensure quality training.
Recruiting students for the welding program.
Representing the college and the welding program by participating in community and national organizations that enhance the welding industry.
Stay current with state of the art welding/fabrication technology, processes and equipment.
Assist in coordinating articulation agreements with high schools and universities.
Schedule may consist of working days, evenings, and weekends throughout the calendar year.
A working knowledge of AWS, ASME, and API welding codes and inspection and testing procedures.
Applicants must demonstrate expertise in: OAW, OFC, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and be able to critique welds for defects and discontinuities.
Be able to read, interpret, and follow WPS welding procedure specifications.
Be able to read, interpret, and follow blueprints and welding symbols as it pertains to manufacturing.

Representative Duties:
The full-time college instructor is responsible for effective performance in the following areas:

B. Teaching and Instruction - The following duties are representative of the kinds of expectations that are normally required of a full-time Butte College instructor. Certain duties are common to the everyday operational needs of the College while other activities may be required on an as needed basis. All of the duties, however, are common requirements at various times for full-time instructional positions.

Plans for and initiates curriculum improvements.
Plans for and is continually well prepared to teach.
Provides organized delivery of instruction.
Is courteous to and approachable by students.
Instruction is consistent with the stated and approved goals and content of the course.
Sticks to the subject matter of the course.
Shows enthusiasm for the subject matter.
Uses effective motivation to create a personal desire to learn the subject/skill(s).
Uses standards of student evaluation that are clear, fair and followed consistently throughout the course.
Requires levels of instructor and student effort sufficient to the mastery of the subject or skills in the course.

Prepares complete course outlines and syllabi.

The College values the contributions made to the local community by the instructional staff, however, such contributions are at the option of the instructor and are not a formal requirement of the position.

Qualifications/Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience OR
Possession of a current California Community College Credential that permits full-time service as an instructor in the applicable discipline. OR

ADDITIONAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Have at least one current unlimited position welding qualification as recognized by AWSD1.1 and/or API1104 and/or ASME Section 9.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of maintenance and repair of common tools used in the welding, fabrication and manufacturing.
Skills related to Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and application of multi-axis CNC machines.
Experience teaching or training in a hands-on environment.
Certified Welding Inspector (QC) and/or Certified Quality Assurance Inspector (QA).
Knowledge of and interest in working in a Guided Pathways environment.
